Kintsugi (金継ぎ, “golden joinery”), also known as kintsukuroi (金繕い, “golden repair”), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with gold — built on the idea that in embracing flaws and imperfections, you can create an even stronger, more beautiful piece of art.

I see your…

Scar-stained legs; concealed

Hirsute limbs; stripped

Whelk-blushed cheeks; veiled

Warm plump kyte; snipped

I tell you…

It’s difficult to remember when,

The last time I had heard from you,

Sweet nothings as your own friend,

Your mind is clouded with thoughts untrue,

I remind you that…

Promises on paper, remain promises on paper,

Until the promises fade, and the paper is clear again,

Waiting for you, remains waiting you to make yourself feel safer,

Until it is you who erupts upon yourself this volcanic pain,

You claim your…

Loud-run laugh; hideous

Mighty appetite: threatening

Strong-willed spirit: insidious

Sedate-paced wit; demeaning

I beg you to realise that…

Even as you sit facing your mirror,

At the very place I fell for you,

Now, to you, it’s anything but clear,

Seedlings of doubt; into a tree it grew,

But I’m aware that…

Poems and songs do you no justice as you remain indescribable,

One step forward, a decade of them back, just to see you again,

Lies and tall tales you tell to others, paint you as incomparable,

One look forward, a decade of them back, just to keep you insane.

Why is it that…

Now to you, your tears hold no value,

Maybe because they fall too often these days,

Now to you, your honesty is no longer amusing,

You prefer yourself silent beyond boundaries.

Understand that…

Hiding remains hiding even if behind gold cages,

Roses that rhyme, and fragrance of love me nots,

String of papercuts, leaving behind fear filled pages,

Memories struggle to stay afloat, lest we decide not.

Had I known you would be in this state,

Would I have hidden the mirror?

Had I known this fairytale you were boasting of,

Would soon turn into a nightmare lasting moons,

Would I have shattered the glass?

Escaping the hate,

Along with all the love for yourself,

I ask you as I face our mirror,

Attempting to embrace you,

To embrace myself.
