Echo Recalls: MUFY Sharity Fiesta

On the 7th of October, the Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY) student council wrapped up their 2-day Sharity event, a charity fundraiser raising funds for SHELTER Home for Children. The event included booth set ups, such as a Henna hand tattoo booth and games for the students. The highlight of Sharity was H2-Ohhh My Lecturer! where various lecturers were splashed and drenched in water for charity.

Cash vouchers were sold by members of the MUFY student council and lecturers in the lead up to the event held on the 6th and 7th of October. The event lasted two days and was held primarily at The Boulevard in the College Campus. Additionally, the Fiesta also featured performances from students of the programme on both days of the charity event.

According to the MUFY student council, the event aims to primarily raise funds for SHELTER Home for Children, a charity welfare organisation for homeless children of abuse and neglect. This charity welfare organisation aims to end child abuse in Malaysia.

SHELTER also works to educate delinquents imprisoned in Kajang Prison and Sungai Buloh Prison. The charity aims to educate, train and help the juveniles regain their self-respect and integrity to aid their reintegration back into society.

SHELTER also aims to provide a safe space for children and teens through their Shelter After School programme, where teens and youths aged 7-18 are provided a place to go to after school. There, they are provided nutritious meals, educational and parental engagement activities.
