With the advancement of technology, humans have found many ways to take advantage of this: from the harvesting of solar energy, to the creation of robots that take your order and serve you food. But we’re not talking about that. Today, we’re talking about the creation of online dating apps such as Tinder, Grindr, Bumble and so on.

Black Mirror is an anthological TV series that fleshes out ⎯ in great realistic detail ⎯ the deep social repercussions of a technologically advanced society. It’s a show with movie-like episodes, each possessing wholly different stories while tackling specific social issues that are all too real. The hype around this spectacle of a show is not without reason; the charm and success of Black Mirror is special for it was crafted to be immune to the bog-standard remarks of critics such as: “it’s not that deep”, “it has no direction” or the biggest shark of the lot: “it’s a waste of time”. This Netflix original is relevant, timely and accurate to its audience (the upper-middle to upper class demographic).

Back when Tinder first came out, it was met with much stigma. It went unsaid, but the only reason anyone would use Tinder is if they were lonely, desperate or sleazy. Since then, dating apps have seeped into mainstream use as they’re now simply a matter of practicality in this fast paced world.
Financial success has “come with an unthinkable price tag” for the planet and for humanity. Mother nature is sick as a result of human negligence and impulsive misjudgement, and it’s time for us to take care of her NOW before the problem exacerbates.
