MINDFULGym: Mindfulness Rest-Shop for Stress Reduction & Wellness

Amidst grappling with day-to-day tasks and pushing through deadlines, it’s easy to forget how important it is to slow down, take a break, and just breathe. As a student, one can become all-too-familiar with feeling fretty, anxious, disconnected, or burnt out. How can these troubles be managed? The answer, in fact, already lies within oneself. Sunway Peer Counselling Volunteers hosted the “MINDFULGym Workshop” on Friday, 28 May 2021, through Zoom, with guest speaker Dr. Phang Cheng Kar to address how to access power within oneself and demonstrate various mindfulness techniques. Sunway Sports Team x The OFFICIAL Sunway Alumni Community launched their very first Sunway Sports Alumni Talk series, intending to kick-start this year with different talk shows featuring different guests. ‘Episode 1: Maintaining International Competitiveness During a Pandemic’ was broadcasted through Facebook Live on 26th March 2021, from 8:30–9:30 PM, and was hosted by Marvin Mah and Sureshkumar, featuring a special guest, national figure skater Julian Yee.

The second webinar of the Sunway University Orientation Quadbinars series was held on Friday, 26th February, from 8-9:00 pm on Zoom. Wei Ting Lim, co-founder and CSO of Quadby, hosted the session. Joined by guest speakers Hubert Lee (@hubertceo), Edward Lauh (@zenlauh), and Moses Wong (@moseswck), Malaysian TikTokers who have made a name for themselves on social media. Also present were Quadby members from other universities, such as UPM, MMU, and the University of Nottingham Malaysia, to discuss the overarching question, “Famous for what?”

SMTOWN LIVE “Culture Humanity” Concert

SMTOWN Live “Culture Humanity” is a free online concert organised by SMTOWN, held on January 1, 2021 and broadcasted through Facebook, Twitter, V Live, YouTube, TikTok, Beyond Live and KNTV. The concert line-up included K-pop acts from SM Entertainment, namely, Kangta, TVXQ!, Super Junior, Taeyeon, Temin, Baekhyun, Kai, Red Velvet, NCT, WayV, SuperM, Aespa, Raiden, IMLAY and Ginjo. It has also set a record for the highest number of viewers for a Korean online concert with over 35.83 million streams from 186 countries. The entire concert was pre-recorded and filming was conducted safely in compliance with the Covid-19 restrictions.

Empowered Today, Equal Tomorrow

With the goal of celebrating the extraordinary social, cultural, economic and political achievements of women around the world, the Community Department of Sunway Student Volunteers (SSV) organized an event called “Empowered Today, Equal Tomorrow” which consisted of three parts: an online exhibition, a self-defense class and a voice out movement. The event also campaigned for greater progress towards achieving gender equality and empowering all women and girls, which is the 5th Sustainable Development Goal.
