Regardless of whether they have been a student for a short while or a long period, this guidebook can be useful for all students when they are getting to know the Sunway campus.
Places to chill
Looking for somewhere to unwind after a stressful and long day filled with classes? Maybe you’re searching for a cosy spot to pass the time as you wait for your next class. Well, fret not! Here is the list of the recommended places to chill that you can find right here at Sunway campus.
College Building:
- College foyer and Brain Forest
Location: Both the college foyer and Brain Forest are located on the ground floor of the college building.
It is a vast, non-air conditioned area open and accessible to all students throughout the day. You may also find students studying or working on their assignments here as the tables are equipped with power sockets to recharge your electronics. Far from peaceful and quiet, the college foyer and brain forest are bustling hives, full of activity and noise as group discussions or hangouts are also not uncommon here.
- College Atrium
Location: Both the first and second floors of the North College building contain the College Atrium. The Financial Services department is surrounded by the atrium on the first floor, while the east and west atriums are located on the second floor.
Given that it is one of the main study locations, second only to the Library, of course, it is the ideal location for students who would like to enjoy some peace. Students frequently come here to complete their assignments or to study for exams.
The second-floor atriums’ Heli-fans and natural lighting make for a pleasant, cool environment, making this the perfect place to recuperate before classes. You should also be aware that natural lighting might vary depending on the weather, being dimmer on rainy days and blindingly brilliant on sunny ones, especially at noon.
- Observation Deck
Location: The observation deck is located on the ground floor of Sunway College, a few steps from the canopy walk leading to Sunway Pyramid.
If you are looking for an indoor space with lots of natural sunlight, the observation deck might just be for you. With large windows providing an impressive, scenic view of the Sunway city landscape, the observation deck is a favourite spot for many students as they can relax or get some work done whilst sipping a cup of beverage from the adjoining Mad Alchemy Cafe.
- Study Deck
Location: The Study Deck can be found between the Brain Forest and the Observation Deck.
If you’re looking for a cool yet cosy environment to study or hang out in, the Study Deck is another strong candidate on the list. Similar to the Observation Deck, the Study Deck is equipped with wide, floor-to-ceiling windows that let in a lot of natural light, as well as Heli-fans for effective ventilation.
- Rooftop Terrace
Location: The Rooftop Terrace is situated on the first floor of the graduate centre. To get there, take the escalator up from the extended foyer near the Brain Forest.
Similar to the Observation Deck, the Rooftop Terrace offers a picturesque view of Sunway Lagoon and Sunway Pyramid. This is a great place to unwind and soak in some sunshine as the breath-taking view provides a tranquil ambiance to this popular study space.
- Student LIFE
Location: A few walks away from the Admissions Department, Student LIFE resides on the ground floor of the North College building, beside the College cafeteria and Sunway Originals.
The lounge inside Student LIFE is another favourite hangout space among the Sunway students. Not only are there cushions and chairs available for students to lounge around and relax in but there is also a ping pong table that students can use to play a quick game while they wait for their next class to begin!
- Rooftop Garden
Location: The Rooftop Garden can be found on the fourth floor of the North College building right outside the JC Hall (Jeffrey Cheah Hall).
The Rooftop Garden is a serene, zen space with only the occasional conversation of people passing through to get to their classes. Hidden in plain sight, students who wish to breathe a breath of fresh air and bathe in the sunlight should not hesitate to visit this charming and delightful little garden.
University Building:
- University Foyer
Location: The University Foyer resides on the ground floor of the University building outside of the Library and Fresco.
As special events and vendor booths are frequently conducted in this spacious, open area, it can be said without a doubt that it serves as the Sunway Campus’ central gathering place.
Sit down on one of the many benches available here as you wind down and listen to the ambient sound of the water fountain and the lovely, rich sound of the music played by the piano nearby!
- Starbucks Coffee
Location: This café is located on the Mezzanine floor of the East University Building, outside of the Library
Did you know that the Sunway Campus has its own Starbucks Coffee café? With its warm ambiance and aesthetically pleasing decor, students at Sunway can enjoy a nice beverage of their choosing as they chill and relax or even study in this quaint little cafe.
- Student Hub
Location: Located underneath the college walkway to the university building, the Student Hub can be found in Basement 1 of the University Building, and it is also accessible from the college foyer.
Here in this secret underground lair, you may find the Sunway College Student Council (SCC) and Sunway University Student Council (SUSC) offices as well as dance studios and conference rooms that students may book to have group discussions in.
The air-conditioned study areas make the student hub a terrific place to chill and unwind. A pool table is also available if you fancy a quick game with your buddies.
Library
Out of all the study spots on the Sunway campus, it is undeniable that the Sunway Library remains the top choice among students for intense study sessions or grinding on work assignments. With 3 levels filled with state-of-the-art facilities everywhere you turn, any new student may find themselves puzzled and overwhelmed with information. Well, this list of commonly asked questions by students just might be precisely what you need to get to know the ins and outs of the library.
Location: The main entrance of the Sunway Campus Library resides on the ground floor of the University building.

A. What are the opening hours?

B. What are the steps to becoming a member and how do you enter the Library?
Library membership is automatic for students of Sunway University and College once their enrolment is completed.
In order to enter the Library, students will have to go through the Facial Recognition machine. If your face is not recognised by the system, you can request help from the Service Counter, G Level.
C. How does one login into their library account?
For students, the User ID is their Student ID and the PIN by default is 1234.
D. What are the available library facilities?
There are 8 individual viewing stations in the Viewing Room for viewing DVD movies and documentaries. Students are free to watch any movies or videos from the library’s extensive collection after collecting the remote from the service counter at the main entrance.
There are 11 Group Project Pods that students may use for group discussion. However, pre-booking is required before students can use these Group Project Pods, which can be done through this link.
There are printing facilities available on all 3 levels of the Library where students can scan, photocopy or print documents. A student ID is required to print items and students can use the credit top-up machine in the printing room at Level B1 to top up their ID card.
E. What are the Library’s rules and regulations?
Food and drinks, excluding water, aren’t allowed into the Library.

F. How do you access the LUL(Lancaster University Library)?
The publishers’ licensing agreements do not allow sharing of resources among educational institutions from April 2021. Therefore, no Lancaster University Library login ID will be provided. However, students and staff can still use Lancaster University OneSearch to search for materials and use Sunway Library Document Delivery service to get materials unavailable from Sunway Library.
G. How do you find necessary books or material from the shelves?
The library books are arranged according to the Library of Congress Classification Scheme using Call Numbers which are arranged alphabetically.
Students can find the library materials they desire by browsing through Shelf Guides brochures available through this link.
Students can use the self-checkout machines to borrow library materials and the library return machine to return borrowed items. Students can also extend the borrowing period by renewing the books up to 5 times on the Library website in order to avoid being fined for late returns. H. Are there any workshops conducted by the Library?
The Library collaborates with lecturers in organising classes for students to cater to the need of students on finding library resources for their assignments or having an overall view on how to conduct research. Please do attend these workshops which are very useful for your learning.
Workshops on how to access E-Textbooks – can be conducted for 30 minutes for each intake (January, March, and August). You can contact the Library online to find the best date and time.

Clubs and Societies
Sunway offers a range of clubs and societies to suit every students’ passion and skills. This ranges from the Sunway Dance Club, to the Sunway Biological Society, and to the Sunway Model United Nations Club. Best of all, students also have the option to start their own club, after receiving the necessary approval.
Sunway’s Clubs & Societies provide students with the opportunity to explore new interests and to dive deeper into their current hobbies.
The term for clubs and societies can vary between 6 months or 1 year, and you would often have the option to extend your term for as long as you are a Sunway Student!
The CNS(Clubs and Societies’) carnival is the perfect opportunity for you to receive an insight into the clubs and societies available for you to join! There will be booths where different clubs and societies showcase information about their club and would often include fun activities to get a taste of what the club is about.

Location: The Boulevard, Sunway College
Located in the LG floor of the college building, take the staircase next to the escalators in the college foyer to find the Boulevard!
Bite and Taste is the perfect go-to food for students, as they provide a range of readily available sandwiches at an inexpensive price. They also have other snacks and drinks such as coffee! On top of that, Bite and Taste has a ‘Buy 7, Get 1 Free’ offer, where you would need to request for a card, and then get a chop by them every time you buy a sandwich!
- Hot&Roll
Location: The Boulevard, Sunway College.
Located in the LG floor of the college building, take the staircase next to the escalators in the college foyer to find the Boulevard!
Looking for a delicious and convenient snack for between classes or something to fill you up while studying? Hot&Roll offers a range of cheesy wraps with your own choice of fillings! There are usually readily available wraps which are kept warm for you or you could wait for only a few minutes for your fresh wrap to be prepared!
