The Sahabat Society is a Malay Cultural Club at Sunway, but it’s really much more than just a regular club; it’s vibrant, alive community that brings the fun in Malay culture to life through various memorable events such as the hallmark Rumah Terbuka Aidilfitri, exciting competitions, and a yearly Hari Merdeka event, just to name a few.
Recently, The Sahabat Society hosted their flagship event; Hari Raya Aidilfitri Rumah Terbuka (or Hari Raya Open House). This was a collaboration between them and different Sunway Organizations like SUSC, SCC and SISA in order to show the different ways people celebrate Hari Raya from across the globe.
The Hari Raya Open House was a half-day event filled with lively cultural dances, music, and performances that celebrated Malaysia’s rich heritage. And of course, no celebration in Malaysia is complete without food—tables were filled with dishes that brought everyone together.

Beyond their festive celebrations, the Sahabat Society also organizes a number of competitions throughout the year, including collaborative events with other organizations such as the football tournament held in partnership with the Intec Student Council or their Netball competition where players play while wearing their Raya attire held in collaboration with Sunway Netball Club.
However, perhaps their most notable annual celebration, besides the Rumah Terbuka, is their Hari Merdeka event. It features unique formats that change each year, ensuring that the celebration is refreshing, lively and not repetitive for each year’s participants.
An example of this is last year, they celebrated Malaysia’s Independence Day by hosting an exciting poster competition, along with a quiz about Malaysia and Merdeka Day. Similarly, in 2023, they held an exhilarating and thrilling treasure hunt.
