Since the Famous Order Program first started, McDonald’s has successfully launched multiple successful partnerships with household names such as J Balvin and Travis Scott. Most recently, McDonald’s recently joined forces with the Korean boyband, BTS to launch another edition of their celebrity collaboration meals. While the fans of BTS which are collectively known as ARMYs rejoiced, one is then left with the question as to what led to the collaboration? In an interview with Sirius XM, it was revealed that the boys have had a long history with McDonald’s ever since they were trainees. In a statement, Jungkook described McDonald’s as the friend who has always been there for him with burgers, fries and soft drinks providing the perfect definition of happiness for him.

Ladies and Gentleman, it’s time for the real talk. ‘Had a bad day? Have a bowl of ice cream. Had a good day? Celebrate with a bowl of ice cream.’, wise words indeed from John Harrison, Dreyer’s official ice cream taste tester. A man whose tongue is so sensitive, it’s been insured for millions of dollars. Returning to the matter at hand, ice cream being the star of frozen desserts is no doubt irresistible for its enchanting sugary and creamy concoction. No need for self-blame. Ice cream is perfectly engineered, so much so it is indistinguishable from magic.

Echo Eats: Taste of Familiarity

Ever since the CMCO was lifted on June 9, with the recovery movement control order (RMCO) in effect beginning June 10, dining out in eateries is currently allowed. Therefore, eateries are now open for dine-in operations, provided that they continue to observe social distancing measures and adhere to relevant SOPs laid out by the government.  Within the 3 months spent under quarantine, our cravings would often slowly creep in and eventually get the best of us. It leaves our imaginations running wild and mouths salivating. While the option to order via food delivery service or take-away exists, the reality of the truth is, it’s undoubtedly less enjoyable. It pales in comparison to the authentic, actual dine-in experience.

From a young age, society has been exposed to the concept of fast food and the culture surrounding it. Often, the two main features of fast food that we hone in on is 1) convenience and, 2) cheapness. After all, who wants to cook after a long day of working? Or who wants to bring the family with energetic children into a restaurant and wait half an hour for food to arrive? Between a full meal of fries, burger and drink; or a single plate of one food at the same price - we’re bound to choose the option that offers variety in the meal.  Today, however, despite the reputation living on, fast food is far from cheap, and sometimes, not very 'fast' either. So in this edition of Echo Eats I present to you: "fast food, and alternatives that are faster".

From the cup noodles we snatch up from vending machines on deadline nights, to the novel, opulent cafes we seek out with friends to marvel at, food is central to the student experience. It is the silent witness to our most intimate conversations, to our roughest nights and to our happiest celebrations. Hence, we at Echo are proud to introduce the first article of a monthly series known as Echo Eats, where we review and hunt for foods to enhance your student experience here at Sunway. For our first installment, we decided to undertake a classic comfort food: spaghetti carbonara.

Reviewed by: Christopher Liew Instead of reviewing Malaysian cafes, this time we are reviewing a cafe all the way in Taiwan’s Tamsui. The unique thing about this cafe is its location in the heart of the Old Street of Tamsui. They have only a small space available, but the utilized it the best they can by maximizing the usage of the area. The top floor was used as the dining area while the bottom floor was used to prepare meals and brew drinks.

Doiffee

Doiffee is located at Taman Desa Jaya and this newly born cafe was opened up by Lionel Ho. Lionel, a graduate from Sunway University with a degree in F&B started the cafe business with his family. Lionel told us that his father had designed the interiors of the cafe!
