Described by Lupita Nyong’o as the “daughter of racism”, colourism has been plaguing societies for decades with its jarring prominence and its blatant inclination towards belittling darker skin to glorify whiter skin. The seemingly positive effects from the influx of recent self-acceptance and self-love related media is ruled out by colourism, which consistently undermines these self-acceptance messages by alluding that only certain types of skin tones are worthy of being accepted. This can’t help but make us wonder: why is darker skin still seen as an unprepossessing physical trait?

What Is A Caste System?
The term caste is described as a hereditary and endogamous community restricted to people of the same economic or occupational, spiritual, and social class. The concept stemmed from the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese words casta and casto, which hold the meaning of “race and lineage” and “pure or chaste”, respectively. In Latin, casto also holds the meaning “chaste”, which originated from the term castus, suggesting “clean, pure and separated”.
For centuries, the basic concepts of time have been determined by numbers – as we all know it, we live and breathe through 365 days in a year. This can be broken down into a universal calendar of 12 months, 52 weeks, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes and 31,536,000 seconds. While the Earth rotates on its axis, the days and nights take turns with their shifts.

As we step out of the season of Aquarius, let us dive into the dreamy, mystical, and otherworldly season of Pisces (February 19 – March 20). The Piscean’s symbol of two fishes swimming in opposite directions reflects the constant duality and division of their inner struggle between fantasy and reality. As the twelfth and final constellation in the zodiac, it is an amalgamation of the many characteristics of the prior eleven signs and the lessons they have learned. Hence, this is what makes these fishes so empathetic and compassionate compared to other creatures in the astrological cycle.
