Yay or Nay: Are eBooks better than Printed Books?

Yay or Nay: Are eBooks better than Printed Books?

In a world that is rapidly moving and becoming more digitalised, it has become an essential part of the world to have everything easily accessible to you, within that rectangular box of silicon that we all carry in our pockets.

Reading books is a very personal journey that varies from person to person, depending on their preferred genre of choice. I’m pretty sure all book lovers can tell you that reading is a magical and personal journey that transcends other kinds of sensory experiences.

A Moment of Repose

A Moment of Repose

Growing up, Noah had always possessed an intoxicating, nearly obsessive zeal for exploration. Yearning for the great promises that the unknown beckoned, he often set out on adventures around his neighbourhood with his friends. Arm-in-arm, they would go on to explore every nook and cranny their small town offered. The destination did not matter; it was the journey bearing the sweet pangs of dopamine that they sought daily.

Noah was ambitious, even more so than his contemporaries. Whilst his friends had their sights on finding the next big neighbourhood adventure, Noah dared to gaze further. Beguiled by the sweet allure of eminence, his ambition spurred him towards a dream much more grandiose; to walk a path many have dreamed of yet only a select few have had the prestige of doing so. His resolute eyes gazed beyond the empyrean, past the azure veil, and onto the vast darkness that tantalisingly laid beyond: Space—a black canvas filled with myriad wonders just waiting to be discovered. Indeed, what greater thrill would there be for an adventure than to uncover the secrets of the universe? An excitement fitting to be his dream, his goal, his raison d’être.

Memento Mori: Finding Solace in Death

Memento Mori: Finding Solace in Death

“Death is the wish of some, the relief of many, and the end of all.” – Lucius Annaeus Seneca

There are very few things in life that are promised. Just having a dream does not necessarily set you up for success, nor does having stellar grades guarantee you a lavish future basked in stardom and wealth. Nobody is obligated to owe you anything, especially not life itself. Certainly, it can be easy to forget this axiom in life as we trudge through the ebb and flow of our own life. However, buried in our quest to derive some value of meaning in our own lives, we may tend to forget about the present as we gravitate toward the future and its potential. We all believe that the status quo will remain as we selfishly progress with our journey. Yes, in our blinded pursuit, we tend to start taking things (people) for granted until one day, when we lift our heads, and they are no longer there, all that is left behind are the wisps of memories and emotions left behind that seem all too ephemeral at this point.

Laughing to the Grave: Using Humour to Cope

Laughing to the Grave: Using Humour to Cope

My wife left a note on the fridge that said, “This isn’t working.”

I’m not sure what she’s talking about. I opened the fridge door and it’s working fine!

A man walks into a magic forest and tries to cut down a talking tree.

“You can’t cut me down,” the tree complains. “I’m a talking tree!”

The man responds, “You may be a talking tree, but you will dialogue.”

Tell me, how did these jokes make you feel? Did you let out a slight chuckle? Or did you just roll your eyes? Of course, everyone has their own unique sense of humour and what they consider can or cannot be joked about, especially regarding more sensitive topics. Nonetheless, if you did give out a chuckle, you may possess a darker sense of humour.

Revenge. Wouldn’t we love to see it?

The bad guy gets obliterated by the good guy for what he has done, now roll the credits and walk out of the theatre with that satisfied feeling in your chest. Well, there is a lot more that goes beyond just the “You’re going to pay for it, just you wait” nature of revenge, and you will see that down below.

Here we will be taking a look at films, video games, and a book that features revenge, and we will see what exactly makes them so good, complex and thought-provoking.
