Sunway University Ensemble: Crayons

I’m not telling you how to live, but if you’ve never seen a live orchestra, you don’t know the true breadth and depth of human experience.

Hyperbole aside, I know orchestra viewings are not exactly cheap. Fortunately, we have our very own student-run ensemble who regularly puts on shows at a modest price. The best part? They’re skilled, passionate, and arguably as professional as any orchestra out there.

I had the pleasure of catching Sunway University Ensemble’s latest concert “Crayons”, on Saturday, the 6th of April. The theme was that there was no theme: ‘Crayons’ was about highlighting the diversity of genres in music, and every piece chosen was as unique and essential as each colour in a box of crayons. They compiled songs from a variety of origins, cultures and time periods.

Positive Me ++

To kickstart the joyous month of April, Sunway Peer Counselling Volunteers (PCV) organized the event, Positive Me +++ in hopes of cultivating awareness of how important “positivity” is as well as instilling an optimistic attitude among the students around campus. The entire event was held in the Art Gallery in Sunway University.

Once Upon A Time (Into The Future)

Last weekend, we were treated to a night with the students of Diploma in Performing Arts from batch 2018, who showcased a series of 8 playlets, titled Once Upon a Time (Into the Future). The theme, “a collection of memories growing up”, was a whimsical and at times sombre contemplation of the past, present and future. The show featured acting, dancing, singing, shrieking (so much shrieking), and even a short silent video clip.

SISA’s Valentine’s Night

Valentine’s Day is a special day to commemorate the bond between lovers, celebrated on the 14th of February. You can celebrate Valentine’s in countless ways, such as by going on a picnic date, watching a movie, or by going to a Valentine’s event where everyone, even the singles can have fun. Luckily, Sunway International Student Ambassador (SISA) hosted that event the night before Valentine’s Day in Sunway University’s Art Gallery.

DONG Dong Dong Chiang! The good old Lion Dance has always brought about joy to the crowds and it is also believed to bring prosperity to the premises visited. This time, the lions performed daring stunts on elevated poles, the amazing dancers within leaping with grace and balancing on each other’s shoulders to expertly showcase the fluidity and strength of the lion. The dance presented the perfect opportunity for students to pray for excellence in their studies.

Clubs, Societies and Sports Awards Ceremony 2018

The Clubs, Societies and Sports Awards Ceremony was held on the 21st of November to celebrate and reward the achievements of Sunway’s many clubs.  As Malaysia’s #MostHappeningCampus, Sunway places a huge emphasis on providing students with a variety of clubs to cater to a spectrum of interests. Miss Amanda Chong from Student Life believes that clubs are an excellent platform for the development of useful social skills and talents, complementing academic knowledge learnt in the classroom. Students can also stand to widen their social circle through participating in clubs as they will meet people who share the same passions as them.
