People often say that most of the time, the world works like clockwork: things always happen the way they were meant to. However, if any one person were asked over a year ago what they had imagined their next decade would look like, no one would have an accurate answer on depicting the following months, days or even years. No one would have foreseen the world at a complete standstill, at its wits’ end. No one would call this clockwork. It has been 523 days since COVID-19 was first reported in Wuhan, China. 447 days (as of 8th June 2021) since the very genesis of Malaysia’s MCOs and yet here we are, almost 500 days later, back at square one.

The coronavirus seems to be all anyone ever talks about these days. However, do not be lured into a false sense of security if the virus has spared you from its grasp; it is simply leaving you to be captured by a more inconspicuous virus—loneliness. It preys on those who suffer in solitude, sucking out all the joy from their lives. As it feeds upon a lack of connection with others, loneliness is a dastardly disease, causing destruction from within.

Sunway Peer Counselling Volunteers hosted the “MINDFULGym Workshop” on Friday, 28 May 2021, through Zoom, with guest speaker Dr. Phang Cheng Kar to address how to access power within oneself and demonstrate various mindfulness techniques. This animosity goes by the name Islamophobia and has become a widely used term in political and social climates. In many countries, followers of Islam are often perceived as a collective “other”; a group of people who don’t quite belong or fit into society. Because of these ‘othering’ tendencies, Muslims are often subjected to intersectional microaggressions and hate crimes which may bring about many psychological impacts.
