Beer & Skittles: Snowpiercer

Beer & Skittles: Snowpiercer

Snowpiercer is an American, post-apocalyptic, sci-fi series about a perpetual-engine-train on which humanity must survive after the world has frozen to death. Its story is based on a 2013 film by the same name directed by Oscar winning ‘Parasite’ director Bong Joon-Ho. The film was originally based on an 1892 French graphic novel called Le Transperceneige by Jacques Lob. The show went through a turbulent development phase to then be released to an onslaught of criticism for deviating from the original film’s plot. Despite this, it managed to garner decent popularity among its audience.

Colourism: Modern Society’s Plague

Colourism: Modern Society’s Plague

Described by Lupita Nyong’o as the “daughter of racism”, colourism has been plaguing societies for decades with its jarring prominence and its blatant inclination towards belittling darker skin to glorify whiter skin. The seemingly positive effects from the influx of recent self-acceptance and self-love related media is ruled out by colourism, which consistently undermines these self-acceptance messages by alluding that only certain types of skin tones are worthy of being accepted. This can’t help but make us wonder: why is darker skin still seen as an unprepossessing physical trait?

Real Talk: The Caste System

What Is A Caste System?

The term caste is described as a hereditary and endogamous community restricted to people of the same economic or occupational, spiritual, and social class. The concept stemmed from the Spanish, Italian and Portuguese words casta and casto, which hold the meaning of “race and lineage” and “pure or chaste”, respectively. In Latin, casto also holds the meaning “chaste”, which originated from the term castus, suggesting “clean, pure and separated”.

Time is Timeless | A Concept

For centuries, the basic concepts of time have been determined by numbers – as we all know it, we live and breathe through 365 days in a year. This can be broken down into a universal calendar of 12 months, 52 weeks, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes and 31,536,000 seconds. While the Earth rotates on its axis, the days and nights take turns with their shifts.
