By 6:30P.M., students had already started flowing into the venue, registering at the booths stationed. Photo taken by Sunway Student Councils. A Year of Community Impact & Student Representation The…
It is often felt, and less remarked upon, that the most bothersome thing in the world is to wait. It requires both patience and a strong mind to allow enough…
For the past two months, have you noticed cat posters around campus? Perhaps it was placed above a trash can, or stuck onto a lamp post outside the kopitiam? You…
“That’s right, I killed Santa.” The words were out of my mouth, sharp and final, as I watched the light dim in my five-year-old son’s eyes. My heart clenched, painfully…

Tsamina mina eh eh, waka waka eh eh! The nostalgic song, Waka Waka by Shakira could be heard booming from Sunway University’s Art Gallery on the 2nd of May 2019. Sunway International Student Ambassadors (SISA) held an event called African Night, with the purpose to celebrate and educate Sunway students about the diverse cultures in Africa, and most importantly for the students to have fun. Each of the performances held that night represented each country found in Africa.
Sometimes the happiest moments in our lives are just good music
A drive, a conversation with an old friend
Hot chocolate while it rains.
Nature, as it unfolds before your eyes.
It’s lying on your back watching the sky
Some silence,
Soft, dreamlike moments
that come and slip away
Leaving us stunned, unable to describe how we feel.
And so it comes to a close. Avengers Endgame is a beautiful movie. Full of split-second frames of pure ecstatic energy, the kind of shots that comic fans will gush over for mirroring their favourite runs or will fill film fans with a satisfied glee that comes with seeing the filmmakers hit a home run. The pacing, while slow, gives weight to each character’s journey as they complete their arcs, stringing the audience along as it moves with purpose. It is because of our history with these characters that the filmmakers feel confident enough to take us to intimate places.
Each year, Freshies Night - a party for freshman to let their hair down and get it on for the night - is one of the most hotly anticipated events. Freshies Night ‘19 was no exception. Organized, as always, by the formidable pairing of Sunway University Student Council (SUSC) and Sunway College Council (SCC), this year’s theme was simply “Let The Show Begin!”.
Welcome to our monthly Echo Eats, a series where we explore the endless possibilities of food around campus! Don’t we all love a plate of good banana leaf rice? Being proud Asians, we always venerate rice over bread or pasta - so this month, we’re finding the best of this heavy dosage meal around Sunway City!
Style is a crucial part of our identity. How we choose to dress is an overt description of our personality that we craft ourselves. Some of us follow fashion trends that change every season, while some dress up only on special occasions. Regardless of which category you fall under, it’s hard to deny that most of us spend too much time in the closet trying to figure out our next move. So - should we get new clothes to remedy this fashion fever? Society has long ingrained within us the belief that dressing well comes with a hefty price tag. However, being college and university students, we have to adhere to a stricter budget than most of us would like. This is where a new trend comes in – thrifting.
Adorned with tons of black and gold decorations, from a golden star-plated red carpet walkway to a realistically lifelike figurine, the Jeffrey Cheah Hall where Sunway’s Got Talent (SGT) Season 3 was held on Tuesday night, the 9th of April 2019 was almost unrecognizable.
Do you remember? Only last year, we were glued to our Twitter feeds, picking apart every new article, talking about it with our friends at mamak shops and hipster cafes alike, smirking whenever our lecturers not-so-subtly alluded to their own thoughts and opinions while trying to stay professional. It was the only topic on our minds. The GE14. History was made on the night of the 9th of May. For the first time since we established ourselves as a democracy, the opposition won and Pakatan Harapan stepped up as our official federal government.
I’m not telling you how to live, but if you’ve never seen a live orchestra, you don’t know the true breadth and depth of human experience.
Hyperbole aside, I know orchestra viewings are not exactly cheap. Fortunately, we have our very own student-run ensemble who regularly puts on shows at a modest price. The best part? They’re skilled, passionate, and arguably as professional as any orchestra out there.
I had the pleasure of catching Sunway University Ensemble’s latest concert “Crayons”, on Saturday, the 6th of April. The theme was that there was no theme: ‘Crayons’ was about highlighting the diversity of genres in music, and every piece chosen was as unique and essential as each colour in a box of crayons. They compiled songs from a variety of origins, cultures and time periods.
