In an era where distractions are as common as the next traffic stop, it is of no surprise that society and hence ourselves, are losing our grip on the issues that matter most. If an armed conflict happens somewhere in the Middle East, the authorities will react immediately. However, if there is a hungry child on the streets of Niger begging for food – he can wait. Simply put, we have an innate bias for one thing over another, even if it is harder and the outcome is less desirable.

Part 3: beYOUtiful Closing Ceremony (1 June 2018)

The closing ceremony was held on Friday, 1st June 2018 from 10am to 12.30pm at the Viewing Gallery of New University Building. It marked the end of the beYOUtiful campaign journey and around 35 to 50 people attended the ceremony. The event began with a warm welcome by Ruwan, who was the emcee for the day. Ruwan acknowledged the presence of the VIPs, the beYOUtiful campaign crew, members of the audience and others. The emcee recalled the purpose of the campaign and how lovely the campaign issue was. He added that self love was more than acceptance by others. It is more about who we are, willing to stand for yourself regardless of your flaws.

Part 2: BeYOUtiful Photo Exhibition (24 & 25 May 2018)

The next event, ‘BeYOUtiful Photo Exhibition’ was held across two days, on Thursday, 24th May 2018 and Friday 25th May 2018 from 10am to 4pm at Sunway College Boulevard. The event featured different photographs of Sunway University and Sunway College students and staff on both days displayed on a wood pallet. The pictures were not edited for natural looks. The photo exhibition allowed the audience to interact with the students and staff portraits by pasting emojis or sticky note comments to encourage self love and acceptance.

Following many other successful campaigns hosted by the second year, Public Relations and Corporate Communications students of BA Hons Communication, the Department of Communication and Liberal Arts (DCLA), School of Arts proudly presented beYOUtiful Campaign this time around. The nature of the campaign takes the form of awareness to appreciate oneself better and to break barriers of low self esteem. The aim of beYOUtiful campaign is to create awareness and motivate students and staff of Sunway College and Sunway University to practice self love and acceptance.
