“If personality is an unbroken series of successful gestures, then there was something gorgeous about him”
― F. Scott Fitzgerald, The Great Gatsby

In line with the above quote, I say yes, yes to the different personalities that every outfit in the room that night represented and yes to the gorgeous men and women behind those outfits.

On the 21st of February 2020, Sunway International Student Ambassadors (SISA), hosted their first Masquerade ball in the Art Gallery at Sunway University. People were asked to register at the door, they innocently abided but little did they know that they were in for a surprise. After people had found their seats (and their friends), the whole room was filled with laughter and all sorts of chatter.

The emcee came up on stage and gave the people a warm welcome, still people did not end their chatter. Nevertheless, she carried on and introduced herself and the performers for the night.

The event kicked off with a performance from Hiba and Nimue. Hiba sang as Nimue strummed her guitar, and together they ushered in a sense of rest and calm as their music seemed to soothe the audience, who did not want anything to hinder their chatter with friends that evening. The next performance was a breakdance by Isyraf.

This next part was everyone’s favourite part of any event. #FOOD. Yep, that’s right, serve me some good spaghetti and meatballs, add some chocolate cake for dessert, did you put some sprinkles on top, because I love sprinkles. If that made your mouth water, you definitely should have been at the masquerade ball!

There was even more chatter and the event started to feel like a networking event. Unbeknownst to everyone, as they were busy chatting, eating and using this break to take pictures of the event, time was moving, and the event had come to an end. Hiba performed again and the surprise was revealed after her performance.

It was simple, everyone who had registered stood a chance of being the best dressed male or female and the best dressed couple. So, the winners of the three categories were announced and were given awards. It was a special moment as the former SISA president was called up to crown the winners. After that, the dance floor was opened to all. Everyone danced the night away just as the people did at Jay Gatsby’s extravagant parties.
