Jennifer Lee

Sunway University ACCA-FIA Lecturer

Tell us about yourself!

My childhood ambition materialized 23 years ago when I stood in front of a class of 40 students and gave my first lecture on the subject Numerical Aspects of Business. My diary is filled with unforgettable and beautiful memories with my students throughout these years of lecturing. It has been a tireless journey, investing my all in bringing out the best in my students.

I am continuously inspired by one of Nelson Mandela’s quotes on the value of education, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Thus, I view being a teacher as a noble profession. There is a saying, “Teaching is a profession that creates all other professions.” and I believe in it. If some people claim they live to eat, I however, live to learn. Learning has no expiry date, it is a continuous process.

How are you feeling about 2022?

Despite the immeasurable trials and mishaps faced from the ongoing pandemic and the discovery of the new coronavirus variants, we Malaysians fared better in 2021 compared to 2020, although 2021 has been very challenging in different ways. I hope that this road to recovery continues to lead us through 2022 and beyond. The year 2022 is a new beginning filled with renewed hope and strength, awarded with success, unlocked more doors of opportunities, blessed with glamorous and fabulous days ahead.

The ongoing pandemic taught me not to procrastinate in my actions and prompted me that time and tide wait for no man. I am keeping my fingers crossed for 2022 to be gracious for all and our days ahead are blessed with good health, luck, peace and joy.

What are your New Year’s resolutions? Both as a lecturer and an individual.

My resolution for this new year as a lecturer is to put forth greater effort in my lecturing skills and guide my students towards the path they should follow in life, open their minds and touch their hearts and souls.

As an individual, I hope to inspire the younger generations to reach their goals and achieve their dreams and believe in lifelong learning.

Any personal goals that you hope to achieve in 2022?

The kitchen is the place that I have utilized the least at home; therefore, one of my personal goals for this year is to learn to cook some signature dishes and bake cakes for my loved ones. Notwithstanding, my other personal goals are to pick up singing as a new hobby and live a well-balanced lifestyle.

Anything you want to change about yourself in 2022?

I am not sure whether it is a strength or weakness when many people around me have commented that I love and care for others more than I do for myself. Therefore, from now on, I want to love myself unconditionally, just as how I love those dearest to me.

Any hopes for the Malaysia national team in 2022?

Since the pandemic, the Malaysian athletes have been very badly hit, and it was recently announced that many national athletes have been axed due to budget cuts. I hope the relevant parties will look into the issue and reconsider ways to help out athletes as this will also largely impact the younger generation of athletes and the future of Malaysian sports.

Besides, some of the major sports events such as the SEA Games, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games as well as the winter Olympics are being held this year. Hence, I really hope Malaysians will give their biggest support to all our athletes, and I believe that each Malaysian athlete will give their best to make Malaysia proud.

Anything you want to change about yourself in 2022?

Answering this has made me reflect on who I was in 2021. During the past few years, I have taken things easy and it caused me to miss out on many opportunities. So, this year, I aim to be more prepared and serious to take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself.

Anything you want to change about yourself in 2022?

I dislike the concept of “changing oneself” in the new year as it may promote a negative self-perception, wherein you feel inclined to view a certain trait of yourself as inherently wrong. Rather, I prefer looking at a trait of myself that I would like to transform into something positively affecting my life. That said, I would like to transform my doubts and worries into opportunities for self-reflection, whereby instead of viewing things simply through its potential deficiencies, I would like to acknowledge that there may be weaknesses but rather work at understanding why they exist and how I can build upon them to improve.

Any hopes for Sunway Echo Media in 2022?

I can only hope for the best for Echo Media in 2022 because I am extremely grateful for the talented and dedicated team that I have the honour to work alongside. My main hope is that all Echo’s members have the opportunity to contribute to their heart’s content by establishing a smoother publication system as well as a closer interdepartmental relationship and communication. I would also like Echo to delve more into areas or initiatives that we haven’t before!

Throughout 2021, we’ve had our fair share of ups and downs. What matters though, is that everyone has celebrated those wonderful moments and pulled through the rough ones. 2022 is a new journey; a new beginning for everyone. May our dear readers take these amazing people as an inspiration and look forward to a smashing new year ahead!
